More serious problems are indicated by a mechanical smell similar to burning rubber or burning metallic or a rotten egg smell.
• You can keep track of how much you’re spending on maintenance repairs – Chances are you’re going to spend some money on a furnace tune-up at one point or another. But if you’re constantly repairing your system and spending more than half the cost of a brand new furnace on repairs you should consider upgrading to a new furnace.
