My Heat Isn’t Working

If you suddenly have no heat, follow the checklist below before calling for service

When you make a service call or emergency heating system service request, we will generally go over a few things with you on the phone before we send someone out to your property. In many cases, we are able to resolve the issue over the phone. If we can help you fix the situation remotely, it will save you money and help you get your life back to normal that much faster.

Ultimately, we will do anything we can to help, but our primary concern is getting your heat back on and the faster we can do that, the better! Many of our customers are surprised at how simple the solution can be sometimes. If it’s a breaker or a power switch, it’s super-quick to fix and you won’t have to wait—or pay for a service call.

Heating system troubleshooting checklist if you lose your heat

  1. Check to see that your tank has enough fuel.
  2. Ensure that all switches are in the right position: “ON” or “START.”
  3. Check all applicable circuit breakers or fuses.
  4. Check your thermostat to make sure it is in the right setting (it should be on “HEAT”) and that the temperature is set where it ought to be (generally 68˚ or above)
  5. If you have a warm air system and adjusting the thermostat does not cause the fan to start running, your burner might not be igniting. If this is the case, you probably need to get it checked by our technician.
  6. Reset the red burner switch (only reset this once or you may flood your system with oil).

Once you have gone through all of these steps, if your system is still not working, call us right away and we will send a tech out to your location. In most cases, we can have a technician on-site within a few hours.
