Four Springtime To-Dos for Your Home Heating System
Four Springtime To-Dos for Your Home Heating System
Posted: April 1, 2019
Now that spring has arrived here in Rhode Island, your thoughts are probably wandering toward warmer weather things to do. But heating season’s not over yet – you’re going to need your heating equipment to work reliably for at least another month or two, and to be ready to go day one of next heating season.
Be sure to do these four things for your heating system in the coming weeks as we move toward the heart of spring 2019.
Check your furnace air filters – We’re probably repeating ourselves here, but changing your air filters is one of the most important things you can do for your forced air heating system. A clogged air filter will lower your efficiency, raise your bills, and lead to more heating repairs down the road; check your air filter once a month when your furnace is in regular use.
Clear away dust and dirt – Heating equipment is a magnet for dirt and dust, especially during the winter; it’s a good idea to get that gunk cleared now rather than leaving it to attract even more in the months ahead.
Schedule preventative heating maintenance – Your heating equipment can probably use a little TLC after a long winter of hard work. Early spring is a great time to tackle routine service for your furnace or boiler, since expert technicians are more readily available during “shoulder season.”
Consider heating equipment upgrades – Spring is often the best time to buy a new heating system – lower demand and springtime incentives typically keep the price of heating equipment down, and installation appointment times will be more plentiful. Installing a heating system in spring is also a good idea because you won’t suddenly have a desperate need for heat the way you might in the fall or winter.
